Ru attended primary school in Taichung, Taiwan, where students were required to wear bright yellow hats so they could be easily seen by oncoming traffic. The rule was strictly enforced, and forgetting your hat meant punishment. 

In retrospect, what once felt disciplinary can also be understood as an act of protection. In 'Just Kidding!', Ru presents a series of identical yellow hats, which conceal different patterns inside — a metaphor for collective legibility and private identity.
