Komune Projects documents how our space changes over time, from temporary exhibitions and special programs to permanent store renovations.

Since opening in August 2024, Komune's physical experiences have become a vehicle for expressing our ethos: championing the people around us. This archive extends the lifespan of those projects, preserving each minor store improvement, annual exhibition, or collaborative installation.

Together, these entries form a biographical record of the people involved in shaping how our store functions today.

Overview

In this new body of work, Bechara Maalouf presents three lamps built from fragments that span two distinct environments: his family home in Kfartay, Lebanon, and his present surroundings in New York.

The house in Kfartay sits alone on a quiet mountain — suspended in time while simultaneously enduring it. In contrast, the city offers an opposite, ever-changing pace.

Maalouf constructs the lamps through repetition, recalling the wrought-iron window motifs of the house in Lebanon. These patterns are interrupted and reworked, fluctuating in a manner that recalls the nature of memory.

“At a moment when Lebanon is often reduced to crisis, I want to focus on what’s still standing, I want to think of it as together.”
