The project returns to Yu Dong's "first" design memory: sanding a wooden disk in college. Their professor's instruction—to feel the disk with your hands, not to perfect it—resonates here, transposed into a sphere that captures touch, wear, and motion. By scaling the disk into a ball and encasing it in cowhide, the work transforms a formative exercise into a physical reminder.

DOYS is a footwear project initiated by YU DONG in 2023 after they graduated from RISD. They are based in Shanghai and have steadily become a hallmark of Komune's brand list, due to their intentional, artisanal, and intricate design. They have always experimented with different media, including film.

Yu Dong produced the film in Guanhaiwei, their hometown, on a shoreline known as Shiyi Tang. For the film, Yu Dong molded a wooden sphere and covered it in cowhide, then finished with white wax. As a dancer interacted with the sphere through movement, the leather's surface began to polish and mark, documenting both friction and time.
