The Work Explained
The first jacket Elliot made in fashion school was similar to The Gorget Coat. However, in that early iteration, the neck detail was not fully realized; Elliot wanted a closure that could button upon itself and insulate the wearer's neck. For Group Show 2, Elliot revisited this challenge, refining his work and testing his growth as a designer.

About Elliot Tiemann
Elliot Tiemann is a designer focused on creating garments that balance technical precision with thoughtful design. His work emphasizes fit and functionality, drawing from his background in pattern-making and construction.

The Process
As with all his work, Elliot designed, patterned, cut, and sewed each part of the coat himself in his Brooklyn studio. The only element he outsourced was the buttonholes, which he completed in New York City's Garment District.
"I think the fit, which is paramount to me when designing, is what I'm most proud of. Drafting this coat showed me how far I've come in terms of achieving fit. I can't count the amount of problems I discovered while examining the fit of my reference coat, things that seem almost second nature to me now which I simply couldn't have seen at the time."
